Scandal of Poverty

Solo:
I know why I'm here;
I know what must be done.
The vision is clear:
It's a fight that has to be won.
Why have you given this mission to me
In the light of my apathy?
It's a scandal of poverty.

Solo:
It defies comprehension.
You know that I mean well,
But my good intentions
Are paving the way to hell
And its getting harder to live with the shame
Of the things I don't do in your name
'bout the scandal of poverty.

Choir:
Scandal of poverty
Canned generosity
Just the standard hypocrisy
Wo, oh oh

Solo:
Just look at the headlines,
And tell me what holds the front page.
Distractions and deadlines,
And humanity acting its age
Nothing but camels and needles and eyes
Lovers and lawyers and lies.
Not a word about poverty.

Solo:
It's all about freedom,
And human dignity,
It's all about having the God-given right
To control your destiny
It's not about standing on the media's stage
till the audience throws it's loose change.
That's the scandal of poverty.

Choir:
Scandal of poverty
Canned generosity
Just the standard hypocrisy
Wo, oh oh

Choir:
I know who holds the purse strings;
I know who holds the power;
And who holds the meetings;
And the key to Babels Tower.
High as they are, they're not out of reach,
We can fly on the justice we preach -
Expose the scandal of poverty.

Choir:
Scandal of poverty
Canned generosity
Just the standard hypocrisy
Wo, oh oh

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12–14
